Lake sanitation and running water restoration
Lake sanitation and restoration of running waters, which means the reconstruction of degraded and technically formed waters in a nearly natural system, is a main field in research and education. The aim is the development of ecologically optimised restoration concepts and strategies.
A sanitation and restoration concept has been developed for the Lake Rangsdorf/Brandenburg and restoration concepts were developed for Lake Herthasee/Brandenburg and Lake Plötzensee/Berlin. Recent research projects were the restoration of the Tegeler Fließ/Brandenburg and the use of swamp forest (type: alder, Alnus glutinosa) for the retention of nutrients of a lowland creek (Briese/Brandenburg).
